There are great trails for Nordic Walking in and around Gustavus. Nordic Walking around town is cool too. There are NO roads leading in or out of Gustavus. The town is surrounded by the ocean and by Glacier Bay National Park. The Bartlett Trails are the toughest and our poles saved the day given the extreme terrain.
The world class fishing at Gustavus, salt water and fresh, made it hard to find time to get our daily Nordic Walk in. Silver salmon, pink salmon, dolly varden, flounder, halibut, rock fish, .... the best fishing ever. Sea otters, bald eagles, sea lions, seals, moose, bear tracks, wolf tracks, .... a wildlife paradise.
The dinning at the Gustavus Inn is fantastic too! The night we stopped in the special was the barbecued King Salmon.
The Gustavus Inn can assist with all of your fishing, hiking and vacation needs. There are bikes for guest to cruise through town and now Nordic Walking Poles to tour the trails. When hosting Nordic Walking Clinics I always utilize user friendly one-piece Nordic Walking Poles that are sized specifically to each individual's height. When hosting clinics at the Gustavus Inn it was proven again that one-piece poles proved to be hassle free - especially when compared to twist-locking adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. Real Nordic Walking Poles from SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System prove to be user-friendly and hassle free.
The Gustavus Inn just closed for the season, but they are taking reservations for the 2010: http://www.gustavusinn.com
Our trip to Gustavus, Alaska really was a dream come true.
